Your Business Doesn’t Stand Still; Neither Should Your Marketing
Put Strategy Behind Your Marketing Efforts
It’s easy to get into routines in life. Go to work, do the day’s tasks, relax at home, and do it all over again the next day. But if you own your own business, as many of our readers do, you know that a “just do the routine” approach is not the key to positive growth over time. You have to constantly be looking at ways to improve business operations, seek out new projects or make processes more efficient.
The same holds true for marketing. The strategy that was carefully crafted a year or two ago may still work effectively, but there’s also a chance that it’s no longer 100% in line with your business goals anymore.
Here are some of the things that could very easily cause your business and marketing paths to diverge:
- You expand to a new local area: Previously, you were focused on a particular city, but you’ve started landing projects (or want to land more projects) in a new location. Has your organic SEO, paid advertising, or content strategy been updated to reflect that?
- You want to expand to new markets: Perhaps you were focused on residential projects previously, and then a customer or trade professional opened the door to commercial or security type projects. Marketing plays a big role in positioning you as a trusted service provider in those markets on your website, social platforms, email newsletters, etc.
- You start or stop supporting a product/service: Do your customers know that they can get your new system monitoring service? Can prospective clients find your website if they’re looking for voice controlled smart homes? Are you getting phone calls for a speaker brand you no longer carry? Time to update your marketing efforts in response.
With everything in business, there has to be a balance. Your marketing campaign obviously needs a plan and direction to follow, but the difference between good and great marketing is whether or not that plan is carefully directed, monitored and tweaked every step of the way.
Here are a few of the things our team at One Firefly strives to do to ensure that the marketing campaigns of our clients don’t fall into the marketing for the sake of marketing category:
Whenever we start a new marketing campaign, one of the first things we do is set up automatic tracking and reporting of key metrics like website visits, SEO rankings, bounce rates, and more. And as the campaign progresses, we look at that data. If an aspect of the campaign isn’t seeing the performance we want or expect, we’re not going to sit idly by. Instead, we’re going to research the root of the issue and come up with a solution.
We may not be in the same city as your business, but we still want to stay in the loop on how things are going! Habitual communication is the key to success with marketing. So if you’re seeing phone calls pick up, we want to know. If you’re seeing phone calls drop, we want to know that too!
Just like new smart home technologies are being invented every day, there are always new marketing strategies being developed and improved over time. That’s how we’ve developed products like Lead Concierge and UI University – we continually look for better ways to deliver value to our clients. And we’re still learning today (next time you talk to Ron, ask him for a sneak peek of what’s on the product roadmap). It’s entirely possible that there are new marketing strategies we can implement for your business that simply weren’t around when the original campaign was developed.
